From the outset of futures contracts, to the trading of OTC Derivatives in the 80’s and the structuring of Credit Derivatives since the early 90’s, the Derivatives market place has been on a quest to manage risk by producing more exotic products but with higher returns. Investment and Merchant Banks, on a global basis, are using large amounts of their resources within trading, structuring, quantitative analysis and risk management to develop these new and innovative products.
Since 1999 the Credit Derivative market place has been a core area within MKM. The Credit market place has been a very profitable centre for many Banks and Hedge Funds through these years. We have seen a high demand for skilled resources with candidates experienced in this area expecting to receive a premium for their skill set. In May 2005 we saw a number of institutions with exposure to car manufacturers that were reduced to junk status causing a significant drop, however on the back of this has seen the largest explosion in mortgage and other private debt products in history.
In recent years we have seen a rise in demand for individuals with hybrid skills – with both quantitative and technology skills required to enhance and develop complex trading systems.
